(HEO5) $80,118 to $89,085 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation Contract position-9 months The Technical officer is responsible for providing technical support to undergraduate biological teaching labs. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Life & Earth Sciences team in the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology (SET).
The role is responsible for technical support of undergraduate biology practicals, including managing associated consumables and equipment. The Technical Officer also provides equipment maintenance and asset management, ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Wellbeing and legislative requirements. Additionally, the Technical Officer supports activities related to a broad range of laboratory skills in the field of Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry and Botany. This position reports to the Team Leader of the Earth and Life Sciences team.
To be successful you will need: Demonstrated experience in managing the provision of laboratory services in biology, genetics, biochemistry and microbiology. Demonstrated experience with routine maintenance of lab equipment, chemical handling and waste disposal processes. Knowledge of HSW and safety management with demonstrated experience in application of these in a research environment. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment with high level communication skills. Desirable: Background in genetics with technical skills associated with maintenance and manipulation of drosophila fly colonies.
