Engagement Assistant Director, Central Australia Region Ongoing & Non-ongoing for an initial period of up to 12 months, Flexible working arrangements will be considered Application Closing Date: 29-Jan-2025 Classification: Executive Level 1 ($121,717 - $138,722)
Employment Type: Ongoing & Non-ongoing (for an initial period of up to 12 months).
This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the NIAA delegate.
Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years.
A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

The Opportunity: We're excited to announce an opportunity for an experienced Engagement Assistant Director in our Central Australia Region team located in the Tennant Creek office.
This is your opportunity to collaborate with communities across the vibrant and diverse Central Australia Region and deliver priority commitments in the Barkly Region.
Here, you'll work alongside First Nations Peoples, who continue to maintain their ancient connection to country and share their rich culture and language.

As an Engagement Assistant Director, you'll work directly within the community, alongside local senior leaders and service providers.
You will forge strong partnerships across all levels of government, driving outcomes that align with the aspirations of communities.
This position is based in Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.
In addition, some regional and remote-based positions may be eligible for:
reasonable relocation support can be negotiated on a case-by-case basis additional Annual Leave of seven (7) days per annum (as a remote locality) access to annual remote locality leave fare/s.

These roles will work on implementing and delivering government initiatives and commitments that support the wellbeing of First Nations Peoples in and around the Barkly Region (Tennant Creek).
As the lead Commonwealth Agency for Indigenous Australians affairs, you will need to have an appreciation, awareness and understanding of matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities and be committed to strengthening your ongoing cultural competency.

Additionally, to be suitable for this role, you must be able to:
contribute to a culture that aligns with NIAA Values and fosters high performing teams who are dedicated to achieving quality program outcomes exercise sound decision making and judgement to produce high level policy advice provide constructive management with a focus on capability development, team building and leadership draft ministerial briefings, correspondence and executive/minister visits and provide high quality assurance services to ensure compliance, identification and mitigation of risks to programs, stakeholders and other projects lead a team of Engagement Officers and Engagement Team Leaders to plan and deliver the NIAA's work program across a particular region or group of First Nations communities, including funding agreements and place-based initiatives provide expert advice and interpretation within technical or professional area, including preparing relevant strategic advice where appropriate create a culturally safe workplace by fostering an environment where the concept of culture and how it influences the workplace and interactions, is understood guide the implementation of culturally appropriate strategies for working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

This position has direct engagement with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and service providers, or is involved in the development of programmes and policy.
You will require a high level of cultural competency, including:
demonstrated understanding of the matters impacting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
demonstrated high level ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
demonstrated high level capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency.
Eligibility: To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check.
