About Yara PilbaraThe Yara Pilbara Fertilisers' plant is one of the largest ammonia production sites in the world and we have also taken the ammonia process further downstream with the Yara Pilbara Nitrates Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) plant, a joint venture with Orica.
Together with ENGIE, Yara Pilbara will also build a renewable hydrogen plant to produce renewable ammonia.

This role is available as either Karratha-based, or Perth-based.
Karratha is a coastal city in Western Australia and is a key community in the region with a resource focus and a relaxed, friendly lifestyle.

Alternatively, this role has the option to be based in Yara's Perth office, located on Adelaide Terrace in the CBD.
ResponsibilitiesYara are seeking applications for their permanent full-time role of Turnaround Static Engineer.
Reporting to the Turnaround Manager, the Turnaround Static Engineer is responsible for supporting the turnaround team, working across our Ammonia, Nitric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate production plants to achieve a successful end-to-end turnaround.
This will be achieved through planning, scheduling, and execution, to realise turnaround objectives and goals.
This position has ownership and accountability for engineering, planning and scheduling, execution and closeout of works associated with all static equipment.
The Static Engineer will align with Yara's turnaround work processes, supported by AP Networks "Navitrack" tool.
They will occasionally co-ordinate with engineers, supervisors and planners as required.
The Static Engineer will:
Develop turnaround goals and objectives across both sites to meet performance targetsEstablish and maintain long-range plans for static equipment across Yara Pilbara plants, including future reliability strategiesDefine and finalise static equipment turnaround scopes in collaboration with the Maintenance and Operations teams, ensuring scope freeze by critical milestonesAlign turnaround scope development with maintenance processes and collaborate closely with Inspection and Operations teams to achieve plant reliability objectivesOptimise preventive maintenance plans and tasks for turnaround scopes and opportunity worksConduct "what if" scenarios to identify high-risk discoveries and implement mitigating actionsLead technical reviews for plant modifications as per Yara's Management of Change (MOC) process and applicable codesDevelop and review method statements for major turnaround activities, including constructability reviews and risk assessmentsReview and approve contractor documentation (fabrication drawings, engineering calculations, QA/QC plans, piping isometrics, ITPs, and safety plans)Ensure compliance with Yara HSE procedures, quality standards, and contractual requirements during turnaround planning and executionParticipate in HAZOP and SIMOPS reviews, providing technical expertise during real-time troubleshootingReview and optimise spare part strategies to ensure availability of critical parts and materials for turnarounds.Identify and implement repair strategies for turnaround spare parts, ensuring alignment with project goals and schedules.Assist in the development and finalisation of contracting strategies for major turnaround scopesDevelop and review bid packages for significant contracts and assess contractor deliverables against agreed scope and milestonesVerify contractor achievements and invoices, ensuring alignment with contractual agreements and project goalsManage project responsibilities for assigned capital projects related to turnaround activitiesDevelop and present management reports and turnaround updates to stakeholders.Complete post-turnaround technical reportsDrive continuous improvements in engineering standards, specifications, and seek opportunities for cost optimisationEvaluate failure mechanisms and recommend or implement repair strategies in coordination with internal and external expertsResolve technical or techno-commercial issues proactively with relevant stakeholdersCoordinate with Inspections, TPO, and Operations teams to implement solutionsEngage with external organisations (e.g., professional associations, suppliers, licensors, contractors, and regulators)Join us at Yara - click "Apply" to submit your application.
Profile• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Full Professional Membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia (MIEAust)
• Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar industry (Petrochemical, Gas Processing or Oil Refining), with at least 5 years in a mechanical engineering role, including turnaround experience
• Understanding of engineering and statutory requirements for a processing and/or chemical plants
• Knowledge of Australian and International Standards as applicable to static equipment design and maintenance
• Experience and training in condition monitoring techniques of static equipment
• Knowledge of risk-based inspection, degradation mechanisms, and corrosion loops
• Experience managing contractors and contracts, handling end-to-end turnarounds, job prioritisation, and engineering, project, and shutdown management
• Thorough understanding of maintenance planning and scheduling, budgeting, and cost control
• Strong report writing skills
• Systematic work approach
• Strong SAP skills (distinct advantage)
• Intermediate/Advanced MS Office skills
• Fluent verbal and written English is essential.
• Australian/New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.
Temporary work visa holders are not eligible for this role.
