About the role: Xavier College is seeking to appoint a visiting Trumpet for Term 1-2025.
This position may continue into Term 2 and could possibly become an ongoing casual position.
This casual position will be approximately one full day per week depending on enrolments.
There may be the capacity to also assist with various school ensembles.
The teaching covers both the Junior School - Burke Hall and Senior School campuses, both of which are located in Kew.
The Trumpet Teacher should be a highly capable musician who will play an important role in teaching music and developing the brass program across the College.
As well, the trumpet teacher should have excellent motivational skills evident in their teaching style and show commitment to inspiring appreciation and developing musical skill in students.
Core Duties and Responsibilities: Teaching individual trumpet students ranging in age from primary – VCE level Liaising with the Head of Brass and other ensemble directors to support trumpet players in the ensembles Preparing students for recitals and exams Assisting with other ensembles as required, including running potential brass/trumpet sectionals Attending any meetings/training as required Assisting with concerts as required Assisting with basic maintenance of brass instruments Selection Criteria Experience in teaching a wide range of students and the ability to use a variety of different pedagogical approaches Ability to build a good rapport and relationships with students, parents, and other staff Some experience in working within a school environment is preferred Excellent organisational and communication skills The ability to teach lower brass is desirable (but not essential) Demonstrated knowledge of, adherence to and leadership for child safety, the Child Safe Standards and an exceptional culture of child safety Well-developed people skills coupled with strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially for the benefit of staff, students and parents Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires self-direction, team-orientation and the ability to effectively handle pressure in a manner consistent with Ignatian values A role description is available adjacent to this advertisement.
