About the Role: This Director of the Professional Teaching Practice Unit leads a team in the development of excellence in learning and teaching practice across the organisation, building professional capability and supporting the transfer and embedding of best and innovative practice in the delivery of programs. This team provides a key enabling function for the delivery of VET, HE, and Foundation courses through the provision of capable and current teaching practitioners who meet the needs of students, industry, and regulatory standards. The PTP team also implements a standard for individual and organisational learning and teaching capability development.
The Director is responsible for leading a high-performing team that works closely with teaching departments, the Curriculum Unit, and subject matter experts to strategically develop teaching practice within a continuous improvement environment. The Director will play a key role in the implementation of the Melbourne Polytechnic Strategic Plan (Learning is the Heartbeat) and the Melbourne Polytechnic Education Plan to ensure that the delivery of courses is innovative, applied, technologically enabled, and industry-focused.
Duties: Lead the Professional Teaching Practice team to facilitate continuous improvement in individual and organizational educational capability to ensure the delivery of industry current learning & teaching, and assessment. Lead the ongoing development and visibility of excellence in educational practice through effective internal and external communications and the development of a repository of exemplar learning artefacts, case studies, high impact teaching approaches, and resources to reference. Lead a highly competent, multi-skilled team to meet the educational practice requirements of the organisation. Lead and manage processes to evaluate and improve the implementation of strategic educational initiatives and offerings on a regular basis. Strategically influence an organisational culture of collaborative approaches and agreed standards to improve educational practice including the implementation of capability standards for VET, HE, and Foundation educators, coaching and mentoring programs, and sharing classroom practice. Provide strategic and operational leadership, authoritative advice, and guidance in the development and implementation of best practice learning & teaching and educational leadership approaches. A current Working With Children Check Card (Employee). A degree or postgraduate degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field with relevant management and educational leadership related experience at a senior level. Demonstrated educational leadership with the ability to lead and manage a team to deliver positive outcomes in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to lead the implementation of effective development in educational capability, strategically across an organization and with teaching departments and individual staff within a broad range of contexts including VET, HE, and Foundation. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as to lead a team with well-developed management, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, and collaborate to achieve shared outcomes. A demonstrated understanding of contemporary teaching practices and how to support their delivery in learning programs utilizing learning technologies and best practice to create engaging, measurable, and high-quality learning experiences for students. Experience in leading committees and governance structures to achieve strategic and operational objectives, with appropriate levels of consultation and engagement with key stakeholders. Demonstrated capability to develop and manage operations to ensure appropriate structures are developed, standards are maintained, and resources are utilized effectively and efficiently, ensuring continuous improvement.
