Lead strategic change at Western Power and help shape the future of our energy network.Western Power's Grid Transformation team is looking for a dynamic leader to drive medium-to-long-term strategies that will shape the future of the Southwest Interconnected System (SWIS).
In this pivotal role, you will spearhead network investment programs, collaborate on industry-wide planning, and play a key role in influencing regulatory reforms, all while contributing to a sustainable, future-ready energy landscape.
If you are passionate about energy transformation and excel in strategic, high-impact leadership, we want to hear from you.Your Role in ActionEffectively lead and develop the Transmission System Planning Area to:Develop medium to long-term system and network strategies that support the energy transformation of the Southwest Interconnected System (SWIS).Ensure strategic decisions consider all relevant factors, including transmission and non-network solutions.Maintain Transmission Plans and Strategies, aligning with regulatory reforms, asset integrity, network capacity, and reliability.Lead techno-economic modelling for future transmission projects.Lead the management of network dynamic and power quality performance.Justify transmission network work proposals to meet reliability, power quality, asset integrity, and capacity objectives.Develop constraint equations for efficient generator dispatch and collaborate with AEMO and Network Operations.Work closely with Transmission Customer Connections and Distribution Grid Strategy teams to align plans with stakeholder needs.Provide timely, accurate planning advice to stakeholders, including AEMO, and support network contingency planning.Contribute to business planning and network operations as per the business operating model.What Makes You a Great FitQualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.Strong leadership, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills.Significant and broad knowledge, expertise and understanding of network utility regulation and the requirements this place on long term system and network strategies.Proven track record of effective management and leadership of high-profile planning teams.Excellent communication and presentation skills including demonstrated ability to consult, guide and influence decision makers using appropriate authority.A demonstrated understanding of the regulatory framework in which organisations operate and the link between business decisions and their impact on the regulatory outcomes.Strong business acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills and exposure to risk management and governance processes.Detailed working knowledge of the techniques and systems associated with effective dynamic, transient, power quality and capacity planning.Broad knowledge of power system plant and application, with direct experience in planning or power system analysis.Specific knowledge of normal planning criteria, principles, and processes and of supporting software systems normally used for power system simulation and analysis.Knowledge of regulatory process and legislation, as well as Market and Technical rules.Comprehensive understanding of network regulation and the requirements this places on justification and development of transmission, distribution and volumetric projects.By joining Western Power, you will contribute to powering a cleaner energy future.
