Transition Support Officer

Details of the offer

Division: Independent Public School - Goldfields Education Region
Salary: Level 3, $74,586 - $80,014 per annum (pro-rata) (DOE (SSO) CA 2022)
This is a 12-month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025 with possible extension. Context In the Goldfields Education Hub, 15 schools collaborate and support regional initiatives to ensure that students achieve educational outcomes by collectively providing quality teaching practices and student support services to support achievement in the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and post-school pathways. The Kalgoorlie education system faces unique challenges due to its regional context, serving a diverse student population. As students transition from primary to high school in Kalgoorlie, the need for targeted support becomes even more critical. There has been a noticeable decline in student attendance and engagement as students transition from Year 6 to Year 7 within the Kalgoorlie/Kambalda/Coolgardie region. This drop-off highlights the need for targeted support during this critical phase, as students face academic, social, and environmental changes when moving to high school, which can impact their motivation and school participation. Addressing these issues through comprehensive transition programs and stronger school-family partnerships is essential for improving retention and fostering a successful start to secondary education.
The Role As Transition Support Officer you will assist in the coordination of the student transition program, including developing and introducing systems and intervention strategies to provide effective support for students, families, and staff across the Network. The successful applicant will ideally possess good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, from students and school staff to other government, non-government, and community agencies.
You will maintain student-specific case notes, undertaking assessments on students for reporting purposes, including liaising with parents/guardians, students, staff, and any other relevant parties, as well as assist the School Leadership and Administration team in crisis management and response duties as required. The successful applicant should have good research, conceptual, and analytical skills, to better assist students and continue to develop your knowledge of current issues for young people and therefore identify/implement activities and projects to engage transitioning students.
