What you'll be doing
Canterbury Hospital is offering a position as Unaccredited Trainee in Intensive Care and Anaesthesia for a period of twelve (12) months, including four (4) months of supervised Anaesthetics training.
The remaining eight (8) months will provide experience and training in Intensive Care Medicine and Cardiology, supervised primarily by Critical Care specialists, with Cardiologist specialist supervision for Cardiology patients, in the combined Level 4 Intensive Unit (ICU)/Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
The trainee will primarily be responsible for providing, under supervision, day-to-day management of patients who are admitted to the Level 4 ICU/CCU supported by a Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO).
This position requires flexibility for a rotating roster which will include twelve (12) hour day or night shifts to provide cover seven (7) days per week in ICU, with a maximum of seven (7) shifts per fortnight in ICU, and on-call for sick relief pro rata.
The ICU trainee will also act as Medical Officer in Charge (MOIC) for the hospital between 2300 and 0800, attending ward emergency calls overnight and supporting a junior medical officer.
MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.Demonstrated ability to work with appropriate independence, commensurate with a level of experience of a PGY4(+) doctor with at least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent) and at least three (3) months experience in Intensive care, Anaesthesia and/or Cardiology.Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and all members of the health care team.Demonstrated organisational skills, time management and ability to manage competing priorities in a supervised complex care environment.Previous experience with advanced Anaesthetic skills, including airway skills and competency in Advanced Life Support (ALS).Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development, self-education and research as well as a demonstrated interest and willingness to teach junior medical staff.Applications Close: 17, January 2025
