Concord Hospital is seeking an Unaccredited Trainee in Cardiology to Join the team for a Fixed Term What you'll be doing This position is open to qualified candidates who are looking to pursue a career and gain further experience in Cardiology. The Cardiology medical officer will have completed or be working towards FRACP Part 1. You will have the opportunity to enhance your skills and experience in Cardiology to prepare you for an accredited training position in the future.
The Unaccredited Trainee will provide effective clinical management of patients, working under the supervision of Specialist Cardiologists to care for patients presenting or referred with potential cardiac disease, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The role includes patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures, maintaining adequate medical records, organising and interpreting appropriate investigations.
The Unaccredited Trainee will medically manage conditions such as acute and chronic coronary disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease including endocarditis, and hypertension, with initial management of arrhythmias and pericardial disease, basic adult congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension, and prevention of heart disease; and undertake supervised general medical management of patients admitted to the Cardiology department.
The Unaccredited Trainee will undertake dedicated terms for procedures including coronary angiography, echocardiography, electrophysiology and other procedural and clinical aspects relevant to Cardiology.
The Unaccredited Trainee is a key person who works closely with all members of staff and must:
Work as part of and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team.Deal with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature.Have the ability to exercise discretion, sensitivity and maintain confidentiality.Work co-operatively within a team environment and actively contribute to team activities including pro-actively participating in team meetings and decision making processes.The Unaccredited trainee will be expected to make independent decisions on patient care. They will duly consult with the responsible consultant Cardiologist in a timely manner, according to the clinical urgency.
Concord Hospital Cardiology Department The Cardiology Department at Concord Hospital is a part of the Sydney Local Health District, and a unit of the University of Sydney. We are a highly academically active department with extensive research interests in clinical cardiology and basic sciences. We provide a comprehensive range of in-patient, ambulatory and consultative services both within the hospital and the wider community.
The unit incorporates an Outpatient Clinic - both general and specialty clinics, imaging and functional testing, coronary care, and the cardiac catheter suite providing diagnostic and interventional facilities for coronary artery disease and electrophysiology. We operate a 24 hour/day angioplasty service to cater for emergency management of acute myocardial infarction.
