As a Trainee Spatial Officer you will learn from experts to help manage and maintain official NSW Government mapping data, such as property boundaries and addresses, transport networks, water bodies and other features of interest.
In addition, Trainee Spatial Officers will have exposure to state-of-the-art aerial imagery and elevation data capture, processing and delivery capabilities.
DCS Spatial Services, a division of the Department of Customer Service, is the key provider of spatial information and services in New South Wales.
DCS Spatial Services integrated framework connects the people of NSW to a comprehensive package of land and property services including property information, surveying and mapping.
DCS Spatial Services provides spatial information products and services to individuals, businesses, government agencies and non-profit organisations throughout NSW, Australia and internationally.

The successful candidate will learn and undertake a range of tasks related to the management and presentation of geographic and spatial information.
The successful candidate will be exposed to a range of business areas that manage foundation spatial datasets such as the land parcels, property addresses, topographic information, imagery and elevation models.
Reporting to a Supervisor in Spatial Operations, you will be responsible for providing the spatial information products and services in a timely manner to achieve program and customer requirements.
This role is a traineeship where you will learn the skills and processes required to support the maintenance of secure, reliable and accurate spatial information that underpin functions across NSW Government.
Tasks will include capturing data in relevant information systems, working as part of a technical team, collaborating and communicating with other business areas and learning how Spatial Services supports government, industry and community activities.
To be considered for this role you will have the NSW Higher School Certificate or equivalent and as part of the traineeship you will undertake a prescribed course of study (Certificate IV in Spatial Information Services) which will include a mandatory week-long face to face intensive program at TAFE NSW National Environment Centre Thurgoona, as well as in-house training.
Any relevant tertiary qualifications you already hold will be highly regarded. Training may involve field work, including overnight travel for short periods of time.
