The Opportunity As part of Ventia's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) commitments, we are currently seeking applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are interested in a career in the corrections industry.
The role will commence on a casual contract, and you will be paid during a 5-week training course based in Adelaide. Note: Travel required from Mount Gambier to Adelaide for 5-week training.
Once the course is completed, you will gain employment as a Trainee Care & Custody Officer and work towards receiving a certificate III in Correctional Practice.
The Candidate Successful candidates should have a flexible approach and the skills and ability to deal with people from a differing and diverse range of backgrounds. You'll need to be able to communicate effectively and manage conflict or challenging situations in a calm and assured manner. Our officers are non-judgemental and committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect.
Your duties will include but are not limited to:
Providing for the safety and security of Persons in Custody Transporting Persons in Custody between prisons, hospitals & courts Caring for Persons in Custody whilst admitted to Hospital Caring for Persons in Custody whilst in Court Custody We recognise that people are our greatest asset, and we are committed to being one of the best employers to work for. High safety and security focus Willingness to obtain a First Aid Certificate Availability to travel (road and air) No experience needed as Ventia will provide you with all the professional training required to fully undertake and succeed in this role.
You will need to have Australian Working Rights (birth certificate or passport) and have the ability to obtain and maintain a National Police Check, Working with Children Check and be prepared to undergo a pre-employment medical including a drug & alcohol test in order to be eligible for these positions.
