About the role As the Train Controller , you will beresponsible for the implementation, coordination, and forward planning of all train movements , light locomotives, infrastructure maintenance, and track inspection vehicles in a train control area, while maintaining the correct records.
Essentially you manage all train movements and track access in your area of responsibility, communicate with maintenance and driver personnel, feed information to internal stakeholders, respond to issues and faults and maintain an accurate event log.

Note – This role works across a 24/7 rotating roster.
Key Accountabilities include: Compliant in the 1994 Book of Rules and Operating Procedures - Rev 7.
Monitoring train movement using screen-based equipment and train graphs , which includes printing circulars and reviewing paper-based materials.
Responsibility for reporting and managing emergency management processes.
Maintaining up to date information regarding occupations and infrastructure changes on the network.
Liaising with Authorised Rail Operators (ARO) and Train Drivers to direct and control movement across the Network.
Implementing and communicating the daily train plan while responding to changing operational requirements.
Reviewing alternative plans where disruptions occur, advising train operators and relevant stakeholders of alterations to service.
About you You will demonstrate sound analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to work in a time sensitive environment and make quick and accurate decisions.
This role will suit someone with a high attention to detail and is well versed in a highly regulated and process driven work environment.
You can work autonomously but also actively contribute to a team environment and possess strong communication and verbal/numerical reasoning skills.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following: ·         Experience in rail operations, transport logistics or operational environments where safety is a core focus.
·         Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills .
·         Adaptable attitude to working in both autonomous and collaborative environments.
·         Strong commitment to learn and implement policy and procedures and be proficient in the use of technology.
·         Current Track Awareness Level 1 and Rail Safe Working qualifications are desirable however not mandatory.

Shift Work This role will work across a 24/7 rotating roster in an operational environment 365 days a year.
The roster includes night work, early morning and late afternoon starts and work on weekends and public holidays .
It is crucial that you have availability to work this rotating roster.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity with 5-weeks annual leave, superannuation, 20% leave loading and free myki for metro & regional travel.
This position will be paid $48.8291 per hour during training in line with the V/Line Operations and Administration Employees Agreement 2023 , Trainee Train Controller.
Once training has completed, the rate of pay will increase to $60.0214 per hour.
Training typically takes at least 6 months including on the job mentoring.

Recruitment Timelines This role is a Medical Category 2 position.
The recruitment and selection process will include a safety and cognitive aptitude assessment prior to the interview rounds.
