The OpportunityCircular Head Council is looking for a full-time Town Planner based in Smithton, Tasmania. Reporting to the Manager Planning and Regulatory Services, this role supports statutory and strategic planning functions, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation while delivering exceptional service to stakeholders. More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Processing development applications professionally and promptlyProviding advice on the Land Use and Planning Approvals Act 1993 and the Tasmanian Planning SchemeConducting site inspections to confirm accuracy and complianceResearching, interpreting, and applying relevant legislationLiaising with government and non-government agencies to ensure compliance and contemporary practicesAssisting in strategic planning projects and policy developmentRepresenting Council in Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal matters when requiredDelivering high-level customer service to internal and external stakeholdersSupporting resource-sharing initiatives with Waratah-Wynyard CouncilMaintaining efficient systems for responding to inquiries and monitoring applicationsAdhering to Council policies and procedures while promoting its values and positive imageContinuously improving work methods to enhance efficiency and service deliveryWhat You NeedTo qualify, you will need formal qualifications acceptable for membership to the Planning Institute of Australia as a Town Planner and a current driver's license.
A minimum of demonstrated experience in strategic planning projects or a related role will also be essential. Additionally, you must be willing to undertake a Police Check.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
Experience in or a broad knowledge of local governmentKnowledge of the Tasmanian Planning SchemeProficiency in GIS applications and the Microsoft Office suiteStrong knowledge of planning and development legislation and associated statutory processesAbility to interpret planning legislation and policies to achieve equitable outcomesWell-developed analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skillsAs our ideal candidate, you will possess highly developed communication and customer service skills, excelling at engaging stakeholders and fostering collaboration.
