We put the customer and our community at the centre of all that we do, ensuring our services are efficient and accessible.To implement, communicate and apply planning principles, acting as an intermediary for and to the public, developers, Council and other Officers on statutory planning matters with a focus on established areas applications.What you'll be doing:Assessing and appraising the merits of planning applications involving the application of discretionary decision-making, including the preparation of internal reports and reports to Council and Council's Delegate in accordance with the schedule of delegation and relevant acts and legislation under supervision from Senior Planners, Team Leaders, Coordinators and the Manager where appropriate.Responding to all applicant and customer enquiries within a timely manner.Preparation of reports to Council and Council's Delegate on general planning matters under minimal supervision, with support from Senior staff where required.Responding to written enquiries of a Town Planning nature, requiring varying degrees of research, interpretation and discretionary decision-making in accordance with the schedule of delegation and relevant acts and legislation, with support from Senior staff where required.Provide guidance and/or advice to administrative staff in respect to the preparation of standard correspondence.Represent Council at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal when required.The skills and experience you'll bring to the role:A knowledge of Town Planning legislation, principles, processes and policies.An ability to solve problems, carry out effective research and an understanding of the consequences of any planning proposal within a strategic framework.A demonstrated ability to liaise effectively on specialist matters with other Town Planners in the field, and other employees within the organisation to improve existing systems. Guidance and advice usually available within time to make a choice.High level verbal and written communication skills including the ability to gain co-operation from and communicate effectively with the public and Council Officers from a range of diverse backgrounds, age groups and cultures.A demonstrated ability to supply information about permit applications and other planning matters at the counter, on the telephone and in writing.Required Certifications & Qualifications:Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or a similar field or relevant experience in Town Planning with lesser tertiary qualifications.Current driver's licence.Why Hume City Council?A leader in local government, we're committed to creating an inclusive and collaborative work environment that is guided by our values:We're better, every day: We give things a go and value progress over perfection.
