Indooroopilly State High School welcomes applications for a Teacher of the Deaf position and hearing impairment. As a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD), you will work within school teams to assist classroom teachers and school staff to develop and effectively implement responses to students with learning needs across learning areas or subjects (including life skills). This position reports to the Head of Department - Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HOD-DHH).
Your role
Collaborate with school teams and students to enhance achievement and inclusion. Deliver capacity-building initiatives, including Educational Interpreter (EI) and Auslan Language Models (ALM) support. Maintain records per OneSchool and ISHS policies, including Personalised Learning and NCCD. Communicate effectively with families, stakeholders, and professionals to support inclusion and adjustments. Plan and deliver tutorial support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, focusing on capacity building, self-advocacy, and well-being. Assist in planning and delivering effective teaching programs, including Individual Curriculum Plans and QCIA. Stay informed on evidence-based teaching practices to improve student outcomes. Support staff in identifying achievement patterns and implementing intervention strategies for underachieving students including students with learning disabilities. Teach whole classes, small groups, and individuals in collaboration with classroom teachers. Provide expertise and professional development to enhance teaching strategies for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Coordinate interpreter requirements for meetings, events, and communications. Collaborate with specialists to improve student learning outcomes. Applicants for these positions must possess:
A relevant teaching qualification. Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland. Employment for pre-service/graduate teachers will be subject to the successful completion of a relevant teaching qualification and meeting the minimum requirements as a teacher with the department.
