What we offer
Salary packaging options up to $18,450 per annum tax free
Remote allowance of $3,300 per annum (if applicable)

About the role
As the Managing Criminal Solicitor at NAAJA, you will play a crucial role in leading a team of dedicated legal professionals in providing high-quality criminal defence services to the Aboriginal communities in the Darwin region.
What you'll be doing
Manage a caseload of complex criminal matters, providing strategic legal advice and representation to clients
Lead and mentor a team of criminal solicitors, ensuring they deliver exceptional legal services to clients
Develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, including the court system, police and other legal organisations
Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance the agency's criminal defence services
Represent the agency at relevant meetings, conferences and community events
Stay up to date with changes in criminal law and policy, and ensure the team is equipped to handle evolving legal landscape
What we're looking for
Admitted as a legal practitioner in the Northern Territory, with a minimum of 5 years' post-admission experience in criminal law
Demonstrated expertise in managing a caseload of complex criminal matters, including experience in criminal trials and appeals
Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a team of legal professionals
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders
Commitment to providing high-quality legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
Demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
Requirements
Ability to obtain a satisfactory "Working with Children Clearance" (Ochre Card) upon commencement
Satisfactory criminal history check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practice
Current Drivers licence, preferably with 4WD experience
Ability and willingness to travel remote
