Genomic Diagnostics is proudly part of the Healius Pathology network, one of the largest providers of pathology services in the country, providing one in three pathology tests performed in Australia.
We are seeking an experienced Chief Scientist – Cytogenomics to join our team in the GD QLD laboratory.
This role has the overall responsibility for the planning, coordination and supervision of all technical, operational, and financial activities, and personnel within the GD QLD laboratory. The Chief Scientist is responsible for performing duties to meet quality assurance, safety, and accreditation requirements at the GD QLD laboratory. The Chief Scientist also oversees a variety of projects that may be assigned by the National Business Manager and Chief Genetic Pathologist.
Responsibilities:
Manage all technical, operational, clinical, and financial aspects of the GD QLD Cytogenomics Laboratory under the direction of the National Business Manager and Chief Genetic Pathologist.
Supervise and provide scientific support to technical and operational GD QLD employees.
Manage the laboratory quality assurance processes and compliance in consultation with the Quality and Risk Manager.
Ensure ongoing adherence to all appropriate NPAAC and ISO standards, as measured by successful ongoing NATA accreditation and successful external QAP performance.
Manage all clinical governance processes in consultation with the Chief Genetic Pathologist.
Be responsible for clinical risk mitigation and escalate clinical incidents to the Chief Genetic Pathologist.
Be responsible for evaluating, planning, implementing, and providing recommendations to increase Cytogenomics testing capacity within the GD QLD laboratory.
Provide strategic leadership for the delivery of the GD's national Cytogenomics testing.
Responsible for the analysis, interpretation, reporting and validation of results within Cytogenomics.
Recommend and endorse test methods, including new assays, to include validation, documentation, and implementation of test systems.
Develop detailed business plans and labour costings for new and existing assays, instrumentation, and resources.
Be responsible for the management and adherence to laboratory based KPI's, including TATs and all associated metrics.
Meet and/or exceed service level agreements; advise National Business Manager of any threats or challenges in meeting these service level agreements.
Manage the recruitment and induction of new employees as required.
About You:
Undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Science or related discipline) recognised by AIMs, HGSA or RCPA.
Demonstrated skills in collaborative and accountable leadership.
Significant leadership experience, as evidenced by the development and successful implementation of key organisational strategies.
Demonstrable experience and skills in building positive and productive relationships, with colleagues and other stakeholders.
Practical knowledge of project management principles.
Excellent knowledge in pathology, laboratory practices and systems.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and manage a broad range of competing priorities.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to process and action complex information.
High level written and verbal communications skills.
