Rates: The following rates will be based on your level of skills and experience for the role:
APS5 - $70 - $100 per hour (inc. super) APS6 - $100 - $130 per hour (inc. super) EL1 - $120 - $150 per hour (inc. super) The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is delivering IT services within the Super, Tax, and Registry Systems portfolio. This work spans the Income Tax, Indirect Tax, Superannuation, and Single Touch Payroll programs, enabling taxpayers and stakeholders to meet their reporting, payment, and compliance obligations. The programs involve implementing IT changes with wide-ranging impacts on government, industry, and the Australian community.
To support these initiatives, we are seeking a Front End Developer specialising in mainframe, backend, and frontend technologies to design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions across our key programs.
The Front End Developer will work across all layers of the technology stack, from mainframe systems to modern web applications. You will contribute to IT design, delivery, and testing while ensuring seamless integration with internal and external systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe systems using COBOL. Build backend services using .Net Framework, C#, and SQL Server. Develop and maintain frontend applications using ASP.Net, Angular (or React), TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Design and develop APIs for seamless communication between systems and stakeholders. Develop automation scripts using PowerShell and Python to streamline workflows and processes. Collaborate with QA teams to implement rigorous testing strategies to ensure system reliability and performance. Work with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, testers, and project managers, to deliver high-quality solutions. Provide ongoing support for deployed systems, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements as required. Skills and Experience:
Strong experience with COBOL development and debugging. Proficiency in .Net Framework, C#, and SQL (database design, queries, and optimization). Hands-on experience with ASP.Net, Angular or React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Expertise in building and consuming RESTful APIs. Advanced skills in PowerShell and Python for automation. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a complex technical environment. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. A commitment to high-quality coding practices and attention to detail. Adaptability to work on both legacy systems and modern technologies. Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience). Certifications in relevant technologies or frameworks (e.g., Microsoft Certified, Angular, or Python certifications). Experience in government or large-scale industry projects is a plus. HOW TO APPLY
