Primary objective: The position will contribute to program improvement and evidence-based decision making across the Department through the preparation of monitoring and evaluation plans and reports. The position will manage a small team of evaluation staff and lead the design and conduct, or contract, evaluations of strategic initiatives for the Department.
Context statement: The Criminal Justice Research, Evaluation and Statistics Unit forms part of the Strategic Policy Coordination division, responsible for leading and coordinating strategic policy development and implementation, legislative change, strategic communication, evaluation, and statistics for the Department.
Key duties and responsibilities: Work with the Director to provide timely strategic evaluation advice to enable the Department to integrate evaluation practices into its work. Lead evaluation-related work to inform improvements to a wide range of program investments delivered by the Department. Manage a small team of evaluation staff and work with external evaluators on high-level evaluation projects. Prepare and present evaluation reports and briefings to senior management. Coordinate procurement and contract management processes for external evaluations. Selection criteria: Essential: Extensive experience in evaluation, including preparing evaluation plans and reports. Excellent project management and time management skills. Knowledge of contemporary policy, political and legislative issues. High-level interpersonal skills to consult, collaborate, influence, and negotiate with stakeholders. Advanced written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work productively in a team and lead and mentor staff. Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with people of diverse cultures. Desirable: Postgraduate research qualification in a relevant discipline. Further information: The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal history check.
