About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to fill the position of Manager Employee Relations (Performance & Conduct), based in Brisbane, to join our high performing team. This role is part of the Employee Relations sub-function of Human Resources and has responsibility for strategic employee relations matters to enable safe, sustainable and productive outcomes in BHP's Coal business.
Core responsibilities: Leading a team of ER professionals who provide technical expertise to line leaders in the management of complex performance, conduct and employment related grievances, including workplace investigations, disciplinary processes, dispute resolution, performance management, and ill & injured employees, and any associated litigation. Leads the delivery of ER strategic actions and plans, including the development of local strategies and tactical plans relevant to the performance & conduct of employees, to enable business priorities. Partners with senior leaders to provide evidence-based and strategic advice in alignment with longer term business objectives. Partners with senior leaders and Legal to effectively lead the response to employment related litigation on behalf of the Coal business. Applies an understanding of internal and external business context and BHP operating model to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance. Ability to confidently analyse and interpret data to support advice and decision-making is an advantage. Identifies, effectively engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders. Gains support for and negotiates outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals. Identifies risks, makes risk adjusted/informed decisions and implements BHP's risk management framework to support safe and productive performance outcomes. Relentlessly pursues continuous improvement, leveraging BHP's Operating System to achieve excellence. About You Experience in a large organisation with multiple enterprise agreements and a large operational workforce. Experience leading, motivating and developing a team who support a high volume case load, with demonstrated ability to manage capacity & demand. A history of exposure to complex employee relations performance and conduct matters, litigation and best practice person centric responses. Exemplary commitment to inclusive leadership and ensuring psychological safety and wellbeing. Advanced stakeholder engagement and influencing capabilities with ability to leverage internal and external stakeholder relationships at all levels. Expertise in Australian industrial relations and employment legislation and ability to provide up-to-date employee relations advice and information. Demonstrable experience in developing strategies and supporting tactical plans, strategic decision-making and risk management. Cross functional HR experience where deep analytical and problem solving skills were developed. Strong work ethic, ability to prioritise business critical activities and a willingness to travel regionally/interstate as required. Mining, Manufacturing and/or Oil and Gas industry experience is desirable. Bachelor's degree in HR, IR or Law is an advantage; experience in employee relations or relevant field is essential.
