The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking to appoint an Employment Pathways Specialist to provide a critical role at Western Plains Correctional Centre.
About the Business Unit
Western Plains Correctional Centre (Western Plains) is Victoria's newest maximum-security correctional facility, designed to house up to 1,248 people in custody.
Western Plains is a multi-purpose facility that adapts to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria.
It features purpose-built modern amenities including medical wards, a cultural centre and vocational training facilities.
Western Plains will open mid-2025 and Corrections Victoria are now recruiting key roles to help shape the future operations of the facility.
About the Role
The Employment Pathway Specialist will oversee employment services to meet the diverse needs of prisoners.
This role will be integral in the delivery of new employment initiatives which directly assist prisoners into employment, and facilitate collaboration with industry, social enterprise groups and support service agencies to provide long-term employment opportunities.
The Employment Pathway Specialist will have oversight of the employment portfolio which includes driving strategic development, planning and implementing systems that will deliver and monitor employment programs to prisoners.
Supervising a small team, the Employment Pathway Specialist will have exceptional leadership, people management and communication skills.
Some of your duties will include:
Proactively develop and maintain partnership arrangements with organisations that deliver employment services for offenders in the community.
Develop and maintain formal governance structures in support of established partnerships.
Ensure accurate, clear and appropriate communication with partners and internal stakeholders.
Support/coach internal and/or partner staff to increasingly assume responsibility for maintenance of partnerships.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Demonstrated understanding of employment related service systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of the employment sector at both State and Commonwealth levels.
Highly developed understanding of long term unemployed and marginalised clients.
