Our Opportunity Position: Decarb Analyst
Location: Perth & Morocco 50/50 split
Roster: Mon to Fri
Reporting within Decarb Solutions to Manager – Decarb Advisory, Fortescue is seeking a Decarb Analyst who will work in close collaboration with Project Managers across Fortescue Decarb and Fortescue Energy/Fortescue Zero to provide insight, analysis and optimization recommendations that contribute to delivering Advisory outcomes for external Fortescue partners and clients – with an initial focus in Morocco, there will be a requirement to support the project locally.
The role covers a dynamic range of responsibilities including but not limited to constructing, analysing and optimising models and forecasts for mining productivity improvement or across the renewables value chains and production processes, plus preparing compelling storylines and charts as part of executive decision-making processes.
This position will be best suited to an individual who thrives when working collaboratively across multiple workstreams, and excels when working in a fast-paced, challenging environment and most importantly who demonstrates a high-level of resilience and flexibility. A willingness to deal with ambiguity while providing well-framed perspectives will be critical to succeeding in this position and progressing into more senior positions.
Key Responsibilities Designing, building and refining analytical models to provide insights on decarbonization transition and deployment and mining productivity improvement Performing analysis with client provided information to understand energy requirements and transition specifications to support Decarbonisation projects, transition of operational planning functions, deployment of digital mining initiatives and related operational productivity implications Preparing summary presentations and documents which highlight key implications and requirements from analysis, including critical thinking through follow up analysis opportunities and required next steps – all in clear storylines, with clear take-aways and responsibility-assigned actions Working with partner and client teams to define, manage, and deliver required information for analytical modelling and deriving necessary insights Navigating outputs from existing Fortescue models, tools, systems and applications to contribute to overall renewables development and energy transition planning Transferring knowledge and capability into other Fortescue functions to support implementation and operation of Fortescue's Decarbonisation advice and solutions Validating inputs from other teams and outputs of energy transition and Decarbonisation teams Documenting technical model design details and managing presentation outputs Frequent international travel required (periods up to a month). Qualifications and Experience Undergraduate degree or Honours Degree in Finance, Engineering, Renewables, Information Science, Materials Processing (or similar) Strong computer competence (Excel, PowerPoint, basic project tools and development applications) critical, and coding skills beneficial 3+ years' experience in broader analytical or engineering-related roles preferably in (1) renewables energy and/or metals and mining energy supply (especially with wind, solar, long duration storage batteries), or (2) mining operations 1+ years' experience in developing models, analysing and optimising, preferentially in financial/operational assessments and business case development Experience with techniques and tools appropriate for financial, operational and optimization models and simulations Experience in summarizing and presenting insights in a compelling and comprehensive manner including power point storylines Familiarity with the nature of green energy transition, renewable power supply and power demand in a metals or mining context, including factors driving operational or power supply variability and operational productivity Electrical power systems Operational performance improvement levers Knowledge of renewable energy technologies including energy supply, transmission and storage Ability to work in a fast pace dynamic environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines Ability to effectively operate autonomously and in a small team environment.
