About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions: The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases. The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), SupremeCourt, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Childrens Court of Queensland, and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).
About your opportunity: This is a temporary flexible full-time position from 06/01/2025 to 28/06/2025, with a mpossibility of an extension.
As a Crown Prosecutor, the incumbent will: - Appear as leading counsel in a range of criminal proceedings, including superior court trials.- Provide the Director of Public Prosecutions with authoritative advice on questions of criminal law and evidence.- Exercise, without supervision, the discretion to initiate, vary and discontinue serious criminal charges.- Communicate persuasively with judges, defence counsel, solicitors, police officers, witnesses, victims of crime and court officials regarding matters for prosecution.- Motivate and contribute to the professional development and supervision of legal officers and support staff.- Active involvement in activities aimed at improving ODPP practices.- Identify and address the needs of victims of crime.
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience and abilities to: - Appear as leading counsel in a range of criminal proceedings, including superior court trials.- Apply well developed interpersonal and communication skills to liaise, consult and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders.- Motivate and contribute to the professional development and supervision of legal officers and support staff, and possess an ability to identify and address the needs of victims of crime.- Develop and maintain a high level of professional competence and ethical standards.
Mandatory qualifications, conditions and requirements: You will be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia (please indicate date of admission).
