Rockhampton Regional Council is dedicated to enhancing the urban environment and promoting sustainability through strategic urban greening initiatives. We are seeking an experienced and dedicated leader to play a pivotal role in the operational and community-focused management of the Arboriculture and Streetscape teams.
This exciting opportunity is now available for an enthusiastic and driven professional to coordinate, guide, and support multiple teams, fostering an environment that encourages high performance, collaboration, and continuous staff development.
You will effectively coordinate the delivery of high-quality arboricultural services and manage the operational functions of high-profile parks, horticulture, and landscape amenities while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.
This hands-on leadership role combines strategic planning with operational oversight which is central to Council's commitment to urban greening, leading the development and execution of both short- and long-term actions plans in collaboration with various internal teams.
Safety First is Council's core value and you will be responsible for leading a strong safety culture. You will also manage the implementation of work health and safety, risk management and environmental plans in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).
What we are looking for
Comprehensive knowledge of tree management practices, risk assessments and proven experience in leading complex urban greening projects. An exceptional leader with the ability to guide, mentor, and build a high-performing, results-oriented team within the Arboriculture and Horticulture sectors. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to provide advice to management and lead the various functions within the Unit. Ability to drive continuous improvements and performance whilst developing collaborative working relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Demonstrated experience with making high level strategic decisions in pressurised environments whilst continuing to uphold exceptional attention to detail to drive project success. Extensive experience in providing comprehensive reports and key insights to senior management. Drive a positive and inclusive safety culture throughout your team. Proven ability to oversee operations, manage budgets and deliver multiple projects that aligns with Council's values and best practices. Hands-on leadership experience with a strong ability to strategically plan, coordinate, and execute both short and long-term action plans in collaboration with internal teams and senior management. Demonstrated leadership experience to engage and build a high performing team through coaching and mentoring whilst cultivating a Safety-First culture. Experience leading the implementation of tree management and tree planting policies and practices, supported by detailed and professional report writing to ensure compliance. Proven project management skills, including financial oversight, to deliver successful outcomes while managing multiple deadlines and engaging a diverse range of stakeholders.
