Research Fellow in Rydberg Field SensingApply locations St Lucia Campus time type Full time posted on Posted 10 Days Ago job requisition id R-45371The School of Mathematics and PhysicsFull-time, fixed-term position for up to 3 yearsBase salary will be in the range of $110,365.29- $130,765.78+ 17% Superannuation (Academic Level B)Based at our St Lucia locationAbout This OpportunityThis is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to contribute to a new project on bioelectric field sensing with Rydberg atoms within A/Prof Tyler Neely's and Prof. Halina Rubinsztein-Dunlop's team at the UQ Bose-Einstein Condensation lab.The aim of this project is to apply Rydberg field sensors to meet open problems in the medical assessment and performance optimisation of athletes, with particular focus on sensitive monitoring of cardiac and muscle electrical signals. The candidate's primary responsibilities will be to deliver the development of the prototype apparatus in the laboratory, engineering subsystems, design innovations, and conduct experimental measurements and evaluation.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct research and develop a research program in experimental quantum sensing using Rydberg atoms.Establish capability to design, fabricate, and characterise optical setups including compact integrated optical assemblies.Work on device miniaturisation, including the fabrication of compact atomic vapour cells.Produce quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in national research journals, other appropriate refereed publications and conference publications, with a lead role in some outputs.Participate in or contribute as chief investigator role (often in conjunction with more experienced researchers) in applications for competitive research funding to support projects and activities, which includes actively seeking, obtaining and managing research funding.Contribute to the transfer of knowledge, technology and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property as relevant.Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.This is a research-focused position.
