About the role The Landscape Officer is responsible for contributing to the delivery of the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board's (the Board) operational programs, projects and priorities as outlined in the Regional Landscape Plan . This involves managing and supporting projects and initiatives aligned with the 3 basic pillars of natural resource management, including pest plant and animal control, sustainable agriculture, water management and undertaking associated compliance related activities. Additional focus areas will also include biodiversity conservation and community engagement.
The role will develop and maintain productive relationships with local community and other key stakeholders, through the provision of technical and specialist advice on issues relating to natural resource management.
Key results/outcomes to be achieved Priority landscape management programs and projects are successfully delivered across the Eyre Peninsula, in line with the Eyre Peninsula Region's Landscape Plan, and the Landscape South Australia Act 2019 . Compliance, investigation and enforcement is undertaken proactively and in line with requirements of the Act. Effective and positive working relationships and partnerships are formed with key stakeholders including local or state government, landowners, volunteers and local communities to achieve landscape management objectives for the region. Pest plant and animal control, water resources management, sustainable agriculture, and biodiversity outcomes are delivered and promoted within the region to landowners, local government, volunteers groups, and other key stakeholders. Priority local environmental and natural resource management engagement objectives are met and constructive and cooperative working relationships are fostered with key education partners including schools, local government, community members and other relevant stakeholders. Contributes to administration of relevant legislation, adheres to Work Health & Safety policies and procedures, and uses Landscape Board resources and systems in an effective and efficient way. Contribute to a safe workplace by accepting responsibility for own and others' safety, identifying and reporting hazards, and participating in consultation about health and safety matters. Key relationships Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board staff, particularly staff within the Operations work team. Landowners, Community Stakeholders, Volunteer Groups, Traditional Owners, and Industry. Contractors, Local Government (Councils), Non-Government Organisations. Department of Environment and Water staff. Commonwealth and State Government agencies Local schools and the Department for Education South Australia. Special conditions Position is based in Streaky Bay (Ceduna by negotiation) A current minimum class C driver's licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4WD is required. Will have the opportunity to participate in fire management or associated duties Some out of hours work and intrastate travel involving overnight absences from home may be required. Required to work alone in a field environment, including working in adverse weather conditions from time to time. Maintain an up to date First Aid Certificate. This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. Selection criteria Knowledge, skills, abilities and experience Gathers and evaluates information from a wide range of formal and informal sources including internet, literature, other organisations and professional networks. Evaluates information to effectively ascertain a practical solution that is aligned with organisational/customer needs. Provides thoroughly researched documents that are expressed concisely, in plain English and in unambiguous terms. Organises information in a format that makes it easy to read. Prioritises workload and allocates time appropriately. Monitors workload and communicates difficulties to their manager in a timely way. Takes a planned approach to organising work using available tools. Understands Government directions as it relates to the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board. Demonstrates a fundamental and current understanding of natural resource management principles and related legislation and policy. Is able to provide accurate technical advice with regard to natural resource management matters and willingly shares technical knowledge with landholders, community and team members. Qualifications/Education An appropriate qualification in environment or natural resource management, science or equivalent is desirable. Must be prepared to undertake and successfully complete training to become an Authorised Officer under the Landscape South Australia Act 2019 as well as other relevant acts. Must be prepared to undertake and successfully complete 1080 training and be involved in implementation of vertebrate pest control programs, including preparation and distribution of fox and rabbit bait. Must be prepared to undertake and successfully complete ChemCert training and safely handle, transport and apply chemicals for the purpose of weed and vertebrate pest control.
