Transport and Main Roads (Organisation site)North Queensland Region; Program Delivery & Operations; Infrastructure Management and Delivery; CairnsTemporary Principal Engineer role available until 30 June 2026.An exciting, fixed term temporary opportunity has become available for a high-level Principal Engineer to manage the delivery of the Barron River Bridge Upgrade project, Far North Queensland's flagship project.Job detailsPosition status: Fixed Term TemporaryPosition type: Flexible full-timeOccupational group: Engineering & SurveyingClassification: PO6Workplace Location: CairnsJob ad reference: QLD/613571/25Closing date: 22-Jan-2025Yearly salary: $144477 - $152810Fortnightly salary: $5537.80 - $5857.20Job duration: Until 30 June 2026 with possible extensionIn the role of Temporary Principal Engineer (Civil) you will manage the delivery of the Barron River Bridge Upgrade project as it transitions from planning into development (detailed design) and delivery.As project manager you will ensure the smooth transition from business case into preconstruction including the coordination and management of preconstruction investigations and procurement of design consultants and delivery contractors.
You will drive the success of the project ensuring effective risk management, stakeholder engagement, and the establishment of best-for-project delivery model.You will provide specialist technical expertise and advice to other professional and technical staff, to ensure delivery of the projects within time, quality, cost and stakeholder expectations.ResponsibilitiesSome of your responsibilities will include:Provide effective leadership to project engineers and contractors.Provide planning, design, and construction advice to ensure delivery of project outcomes, value for money and best practice is achieved.Ensure performance and governance processes are in place and provide timely and accurate information to senior management on program status, risks and opportunities.Monitor and report on the progress of works against predetermined time, cost and quality specifications and manage resources across competing priorities to optimise outcomes across the program.Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the works, you will be responsible for and determine changes to processes with a view to obtaining continuous improvements in efficiency, productivity and setting strategies.Provide expert advice and guidance on contractual issues and contract performance.Ensure the application of all relevant standards, policies, guidelines and legislative requirements necessary to support responsible decisions and quality of outcomes is maintained with respect to all phases of project delivery.Act as "Representative of the Principal" for the delivery of contracts as defined and delegated at respective development/implementation project phases.Comply with the WH&S Act, Regulations and Department Policy.If capacity allows, you will be able to project manage other QTRIP infrastructure projects.Mandatory qualifications and conditions• A Washington Accord accredited four-year degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia.• Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory for appointment to the position.• Significant years of experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team to successfully deliver a large infrastructure project involving a significant bridge structure component.• The employee may be required to mentor and supervise the work of non-RPEQs within the Project.• Current holder of Class C driver's license.• Criminal history screening will be conducted for the recommended person for this role.• Must be eligible to work in Australia.• Pre-employment check of serious discipline history for the recommended candidate(s) as a condition of employment.Desirable Experience• Previous experience in identifying or developing a program of works to address key strategic outcomes.• Previous experience in delivering a program of works in highly constrained or sensitive environments.• Previous experience in managing conflicting stakeholder viewpoints on projects, to arrive at defensible outcomes.Why you should consider TMR:• Generous employer superannuation contribution - up to 12.75%• Five weeks annual recreation leave plus leave loading• RPEQ compensation paymentApplications to remain current for 12 months.Job Ad Reference: QLD/613571/25Closing Date: Wednesday, 22 January 2025Further informationWe are committed to building inclusive cultures in the Queensland public sector that respect and promote human rights and diversity.Please ensure you download all attachments and follow the instructions on how to apply.
