About the team
Animal Care Services (ACS) ensures the wellbeing and ethical treatment of laboratory animals used in research and teaching at the University. We maintain the highest standards of care and compliance with legal and statutory requirements.
About the opportunity
As a Technician in the Animal Facility, you will provide essential care and maintenance for laboratory animals under direction in a busy research environment. Your responsibilities include husbandry procedures, cleaning, hygiene, feeding, and watering of animals within containment facilities.
Key Responsibilities :
Maintain accurate records as required by the Animal Ethics Committee and ACS Standard Operating Procedures.Provide general care, including cleaning, feeding, and watering of animals.Ensure compliance with ACS SOPs and Animal Ethics Committee requirements.Organise and maintain supplies for research and teaching purposes.Sanitise equipment and maintain supplies using cage washers and autoclaves.Monitor sterilisation validation processes and ensure proper waste disposal.Assist in minor experimental procedures and other duties as directed.About you
You should possess at least a Year 12 level of education or equivalent, along with a Certificate in Animal Technology or its equivalent, complemented by relevant experience working in an animal facility. Strong communication and teamwork skills, combined with excellent organizational and time management abilities, are essential. Proficiency in computing skills and knowledge of safety procedures and the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes are also required.
Special requirements include availability for occasional after-hours work, possession of a current "C" class driver's license, a current National Police Clearance Certificate, the ability to meet the physical demands of the position, and recommended vaccinations for Tetanus, Hepatitis B, COVID, Influenza, and Q Fever.
