DES is seeking to appoint a Technical Specialist (Waste Management) who possesses extensive experience in waste management from commercial and industrial processes, how waste can be reused or recycled using technology, waste disposal processes, and the direct and indirect impact of new and existing waste management practices on environmental matters, as regulated under the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011.

Workplace Location: The position will sit in Queensland's environmental regulator, the Environmental Services and Regulation (ESR) division, of the Department of Environment and Science. The division provides targeted, consistent, and transparent regulation of environmental risks through a modern and innovative regulatory framework that includes assessment, compliance, investigation, and enforcement programs.
The successful individual will have advanced technical and research skills, including the ability to analyse complex technical reports and datasets. You will represent the department, both to internal and external stakeholders, through the provision of technical advice relating to waste management processes and the regulation and management of those activities. You will provide advice to assist the regulator in its assessment of new and innovative waste management solutions as well as the ongoing regulation of existing facilities to ensure positive environmental outcomes. You will have a collaborative approach, along with strong communication skills to contribute to a team environment.
