As a Technical Specialist, Electrical, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our cutting-edge technical facilities. As part of the Building Infrastructure Engineering (BIE) team, you'll drive the evolution of our electrical infrastructure to meet both current and future demands. This senior position involves developing innovative electrical solutions, creating scopes of work, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. You'll collaborate with key stakeholders to anticipate future needs, align with industry standards, and manage vendors to ensure reliable, efficient infrastructure. If you have extensive experience in electrical systems, telecommunications, or data centres, and are passionate about designing tomorrow's technology spaces, this role is for you!
Your day in the life as a Technical Specialist, Electrical:
Develop innovative electrical infrastructure solutions for Optus technical facilities, ensuring alignment with space, power, and cooling requirements.
Produce detailed scopes of work and secure management approval for preferred electrical solutions.
Anticipate and address future electrical infrastructure deficiencies, recommending and implementing cost-effective actions.
Lead the planning, design, and delivery of electrical infrastructure projects, ensuring coordination with other technical services.
Collaborate with vendors to ensure timely and budget-compliant project execution.
Ensure adherence to relevant Low Voltage (LV) electrical standards, codes, and certifications, including UPS, battery systems, and EPG systems.
Provide expert guidance on electrical systems in telecommunications facilities and data centres, integrating industry standards and best practices.
Oversee the reporting, handover, and ongoing maintenance of completed electrical projects, ensuring sustained operational excellence.
Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
Maintain strong communication and relationships with key stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
Experience required:
Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on critical infrastructure for technical facilities.
Extensive experience in managing infrastructure, building construction, and services projects.
Extensive knowledge of Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems, including UPS, battery systems, and emergency power generators.
Familiarity with fire services, mechanical systems, and security systems in telecommunications or data centre environments.
Proven expertise in managing CAPEX budgets between $2M-$5M, with strong commercial and sourcing skills.
Experience in creating and implementing engineering standards for critical facilities.
Strategic thinker with strong business acumen, capable of independently developing and presenting business plans.
Working knowledge of the Building Code of Australia, Australian Standards, and risk management procedures.
Proven leadership in managing diverse project teams and building positive relationships with contractors and consultants.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and excellent communication skills.
