Position Overview The Technical Sales Manager will drive business growth by combining advanced technical knowledge with strong sales acumen. The successful candidate will focus on identifying new business opportunities, managing key accounts, and leading technical discussions with customers to deliver tailored composite and plastic solutions. The role requires hands-on involvement in understanding engineering challenges and providing solutions by understanding materials, processes, and design methodologies. This individual will be responsible for concept design support, tender management, and end-to-end project delivery.
Key Responsibilities Sales Strategy : Collaborate with the General Manager to develop and execute a sales strategy focused on increasing market share and expanding into new industries. Technical Sales Expertise : Utilise technical understanding of composites, plastics, and manufacturing processes (e.g., thermoforming, open and closed composite moulding) to engage with customers and offer bespoke, engineered solutions that address their specific challenges. Market Research : Conduct ongoing market analysis to stay ahead of trends, assess competitor activities and identify potential growth areas. Product & Solution Development : Act as a bridge between customers and the internal technical teams to guide the development of new products or modify existing products to meet market demands. Key Account Management : Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing key accounts, ensuring customer satisfaction and identifying opportunities for upselling and cross-selling. Sales Forecasting & Reporting : Monitor and report on sales performance, pipeline management, and market trends. Provide accurate forecasting and work with the management team to develop growth strategies. Collaboration : Work closely with the technical teams in Australia and Asia to ensure engineering alignment with market needs and specific customer requirements. Project Management : Oversee project timelines, manage technical deliverables, and coordinate with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful project completion from concept to delivery. Key Requirements Experience : Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in technical sales within composites or plastics, focusing on high-value, engineered solutions. Education : A degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a strong understanding of composites and plastics manufacturing processes. Technical Expertise : Knowledge of composite materials and plastics processing techniques and proficiency in design software (CAD, SolidWorks, etc.) are highly desirable. Sales Acumen : Proven track record of driving sales growth, developing new business opportunities, and achieving revenue targets. Relationship Building : Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders. Project & Tender Management : Experience managing complex projects and tenders, from initial concept discussions to final delivery, ensuring milestones are met and solutions align with customer needs. Negotiation Skills : Strong negotiation skills with the ability to close high-value deals. Problem-Solving : Analytical thinker who can provide solutions to customer challenges and ensure alignment with technical requirements. Self-motivated : A self-starter who can work independently and manage time effectively to meet sales goals. Travel : Ability to travel nationally to meet with customers and attend industry events as needed. Technical Engagement : Successful translation of technical discussions into closed deals, demonstrating the company's engineering and manufacturing capabilities.
