As a statutory authority, the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) has the responsibility of managing Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way to ensure their ongoing sustainability, while supporting the value they deliver to the commercial, recreational, aquaculture, and Indigenous fishing sectors. We work with government and stakeholders to optimise the social, cultural, and economic benefits of Victoria's fisheries and aquaculture industries, while promoting sustainable and responsible practices.
The VFA supports the development of sustainable recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture activities in Victoria and delivers recreational fishing and boating infrastructure projects and programs. We are committed to getting more people fishing by creating opportunities for people of all abilities to try fishing; to making it safer, cheaper, and easier for the boating and fishing communities to get out on the water; and to making local seafood more readily available for everyone to enjoy.
Our function is to ensure that the Government, Victorian fishing sector, and general community obtain the benefits of careful management to ensure demand can be sustainably supported into the future. This is achieved by matching demand to fish stocking and infrastructure, while providing up-to-date information on resource condition and supporting regulatory requirements.
Technical Officer (Fish Production and Stocking) - multiple roles available 24 months Fixed termUsual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)The Role The fish production and stocking team based at Snobs Creek is responsible for the production and stocking of 10 million fish a year into Victorian public waters for recreational fishing purposes. Fish production for public waters stocking is a key Victorian Fisheries Authority priority and Victorian Government policy commitment.
The role of the Technical Officer (Fish Production and stocking) provides technical, administrative, and operational support to the department's recreational fish production and stocking program.
The position will sit within the Recreational Fishing Improvements team and will report directly to the Stocking Coordinator, Snobs Creek. There are no staff reporting to this position which will function as part of the fish production and stocking team based at Snobs Creek. This position is part of both the native fish and salmonid hatcheries, the stocking program, and will work closely with other areas of Victorian Fisheries Authority to achieve broader results.
The Team The VFA is a statutory authority established to facilitate the effective management of Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way that ensures their ongoing sustainability. The VFA functions to ensure that the Government, the recreational and commercial fishing sectors, and the Victorian community can share in and obtain the benefits from sustainable fisheries management.
The VFA has around 190 employees located in the Melbourne CBD, metropolitan Melbourne, and across regional Victoria.
