The role will support laboratory-based activity delivered on the northern campus.
This position supports quality learning and teaching to enhance the student experience and graduate outcomes.
The appointee will draw on time management and technical skills to facilitate the preparation, setup/pack up of practical classes as well as providing varying levels of administration support.
Teamwork and collegiality will come in to play contributing to the wider professional services team through additional support as required and building strong professional relationships with academics to provide exceptional service to the delivery of learning outcomes.
What you'll do: In consultation with the Senior Technical Officer, liaise with academics, support staff and other technical officers regarding teaching and learning requirements.
Collaborate with course coordinators to develop, improve and coordinate procedures and teaching resources to support course activities within the relevant disciplines.
Undertake a leading role in Workplace Health and Safety issues during practical classes and preparation, and to work as part of the technical team to maintain WH&S standards in the school's laboratories and support a safe teaching environment.
This will include: • Preparing safe working laboratory procedures • Support the standardisation of technical risk assessments • Completing workplaces inspections • Preparing documents of standard operating procedures Maintain, calibrate and facilitate servicing of equipment within Biomedical Sciences.
Maintain stock levels of equipment and consumables for the Microbiology laboratories, including procurement, utilising existing University and School based financial systems.
Provide technical support to unit coordinators during practical classes when required.
Liaise with external agencies and equipment suppliers to maintain and develop knowledge in technological advances in equipment and technologies within the relevant discipline.
What we're looking for: Completion of a diploma level qualification with relevant laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant training, education and/or experience.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively as a team member, provide responsible innovation in task delivery and effectively manage workload and priorities.
Highly developed oral, written, negotiation and interpersonal skills, along with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and an ability to think flexibly.
Demonstrated high level skills in a range of computer software applications including word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software, email, and the internet as a resource.
Experience in working with biological material that may include blood products and low-level infectious agents.
Salary details Appointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $102,190 comprising base salary within the range of $78,210 to $87,342 plus 17% superannuation.
