View our current career opportunities here.Apply now Job no: 500641Work type: Full timeLocation: LauncestonCategories: Laboratory & Research SupportTechnical OfficerProvide high level technical support to both TIA and SNS staff and students engaged in teaching and research activities.Support the organisation and management of day-to-day operations in research and teaching laboratories.Full time, Ongoing position based in Launceston.About the opportunityThe Technical Officer will work across the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) and the School of Natural Sciences (SNS) to support teaching and research activities.TIA and SNS deliver world leading research, industry development, extension and education programs with strong links to key stakeholders in industry and ventures with the Tasmanian Government.
TIA's mission is to enable Tasmanian food producers and processors to accelerate primary sector productivity while maintaining and improving Tasmania's land and water quality for future generations.
The School of Natural Sciences trains the next generation of leaders in science, technology, and mathematics which are the future fundamental subjects of Australia.The Technical Officer will provide technical support to laboratory-based and field-based practicals for undergraduate students.
The incumbent will broadly promote a safety culture compliant with UTAS and Work Health and Safety regulations.This position will report to the Operations Manager (TIA) with indirect reporting to the SNS Facilities Manager for the relevant laboratory and practical work.What you'll do:Support the organisation and management of day-to-day operations in research and teaching laboratories and provide high level support services, including purchasing, management and maintenance of consumables, chemicals, and equipment.Contribute to technical elements of the teaching program including demonstration, preparation, and delivery of teaching resources.Provide high level support to TIA and SNS staff and students to ensure that laboratories, glasshouses, and other facilities are appropriately managed, maintained and operated.Coordinate the development, maintenance and revision of laboratory manuals, safe work procedures, generic risk assessments, audits, logbooks, maintenance records and other documentation for facilities and equipment in accordance with statutory requirements and UTAS policy.Coordinate and maintain records for preventative maintenance, repair, calibration, and scheduled servicing of laboratory equipment.
Arrange and oversee corrective/preventative work-requests as required.Oversee access to restricted laboratory areas, ensuring that appropriate training records are maintained and induct personnel into facilities including laboratories and other workspaces as required.What we're looking for:Demonstrated understanding and proficiency in laboratory and field processes and procedures.Strong WHS knowledge and safe work systems management, including the management and handling of chemicals and laboratory hazards.Proven organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and work independently with limited supervision whilst participating effectively in a team environment.Highly developed communication skills with a proven ability to work with staff and students from diverse cultures and backgrounds to achieve the required outcomes.Skills and experience using a range of computer packages, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email and cloud-based systems.Salary detailsAppointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $102,190 comprising base salary within the range of $78,210 to $87,342 plus 17% superannuation.How to ApplyTo apply online, please provide your CV, a cover letter, and a response to the Role Specific Skills, Knowledge and Experience outlining your interest in the role, skills, capabilities and experience.For further information about this position, please contact Sabrina Sonda, Operation Manager, ****** or 03 6324 3248.Please refer to the attached Position Description Below for full details.Applications close Monday, 3 February 2025, 11.55pmTo be eligible for this position, you are required to have Australian citizenship, permanent residence or a current valid visa that allows you to fulfil the requirements of this role.Advertised: 13 Jan 2025 Tasmania Daylight TimeApplications close: 03 Feb 2025 Tasmania Daylight Time
