Technical Officer Ecosystem Rehabilitation Come and be a part of a world class rehabilitation project that will set the gold standard for mine closure Your chance to play an active part in rehabilitating indigenous land in a unique environment Interesting research component in this technical officer role About the role Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs We are looking for an Ecosystem Rehabilitation Technical Officer for a ground-breaking closure project.
You will have a vital role in the execution of key rehabilitation programs, making a true impact to the successful rehabilitation of the former Ranger Mine.
This role will focus on supporting ecological studies to inform the Ranger Rehabilitation Strategy and ensure the successful closure of the former Ranger Mine.
Reporting to the Specialist Rehabilitation & Ecology and working a nine-day fortnight, the key responsibilities of the Technical Officer will include: Safely conducting regular surveys of the rehabilitated ecosystems to monitor ecosystem development and to inform ongoing land management activities.
This will involve: Preparing field sheets and equipment; Collecting field data on vegetation establishment and fauna colonisation; Entering and managing data; and Potential to assist with data analysis and reporting Assisting with ongoing Rehabilitation and Ecology studies including soil development and nutrient cycling, as well as fire, weed and pest management.
There may also be opportunity to gain experience with other field investigations involving water and sediment sampling.
Maintenance of seed storage facilities and preparation of seeds for testing/propagation.
Engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, government and/or Traditional Owner groups.
The role has a 5/2/4/3 fortnight roster and will be Bus In Bus Out (BIBO) between Darwin and Jabiru.

ERA, established in 1979, previously mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory.
The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, surrounded by, but currently separate from, Kakadu National Park.
ERA's production operations on the Ranger Project Area ceased in January 2021, with the major focus now shifting to the comprehensive world-class rehabilitation of the Ranger mine that will eventually allow it to be incorporated back into the Kakadu National Park should the Traditional Owners and the Commonwealth Government wish.
The Ranger Rehabilitation Project is the largest project of its kind in Australia and possibly the world.
It is unique in that it is rehabilitating land in one of the world's most culturally and environmentally sensitive locations, surrounded by the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park on the land of the Mirarr Traditional Owners, located three hours southeast of Darwin.
