The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Technical Lead specializing in Mainframe and COBOL to support the implementation of the Payday Super initiative. This transformative program modernizes the Super Guarantee (SG) system, ensuring faster and more accurate superannuation contributions for millions of Australians. As a Technical Lead, you will oversee the technical design, development, and optimization of mainframe systems, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and alignment with program objectives. You will guide a team of developers, provide technical expertise, and drive the delivery of high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and enhancement of mainframe systems using COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of developers to ensure best practices and high-quality deliverables.Collaborate with architects and solution designers to create scalable, efficient, and compliant system designs.Optimize mainframe applications for faster processing and real-time data integration with Single Touch Payroll and contribution systems.Oversee the development lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery of code that meets program requirements.Conduct code reviews to maintain quality, consistency, and adherence to coding standards.Ensure that all technical solutions comply with legislative, security, and program-specific requirements.Design and oversee the integration of mainframe systems with external platforms such as clearing houses, super funds, and the ATO.Identify potential technical risks and develop mitigation strategies to address challenges.Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues to maintain project timelines.Work closely with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, testers, and project managers, to ensure alignment.Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system designs, workflows, and operational guidelines.Provide regular updates on technical progress and risks to leadership and stakeholders.Skills and Experience: Extensive experience in mainframe development with strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.Proven experience as a Technical Lead or Senior Developer in large-scale, compliance-driven projects.Strong understanding of system integration, performance optimization, and real-time processing.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.Proficiency in leading teams and managing complex technical projects.Experience with superannuation systems, Single Touch Payroll, or financial services.Knowledge of compliance and legislative-driven initiatives.Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices.How to Apply: Please follow the application process carefully.
