The key duties of the position include: The Cloud Platforms Manager leads a team responsible for delivery of high-value, secure and easy to use cloud platforms and services to support scientific and corporate needs. Geoscience Australia uses a variety of commercial cloud offerings, and these platforms are relied upon across the organisation to deliver organisational objectives.
The Cloud Platforms team ensures that Geoscience Australia's cloud platforms are fit-for-purpose, consistent, sustainable, maintained, secure and well governed. Through active engagement and collaboration with end users, the Cloud Platforms Manager identifies current and future organisational cloud needs and drives effective and efficient adoption of cloud capabilities.
As a leader within the Enterprise Data and Digital Branch, this role is also responsible for promoting a positive, inclusive and high-performing culture and contributing to the enhancement and modernisation of our enterprise data and digital capability and to the achievement of the Geoscience Australia Strategy 2028.
In this role you will: Contribute to strategic direction for cloud adoption and usage across Geoscience Australia, consistent with user needs and organisational objectives. Lead the design, development and support of enterprise cloud platforms and services to enable other teams to effectively leverage cloud. Work collaboratively between internal and external stakeholders to align cloud platforms and services with business needs, maintain service standards, and drive continuous improvement. Ensure design and architecture of cloud solutions support the needs of the organisation, enable self-service and are cost-effective, maintainable and secure. Collaborate with the ICT Strategy and Architecture team to ensure cloud platforms are delivered in line with enterprise architecture principles. Establish and oversee governance practices which ensure cloud usage complies with better practice security and management goals. Manage a team of cloud specialists, and build team capability through recruiting, mentoring, training and coaching others, providing performance feedback, conflict resolution and encouraging career development. Manage and engage with risks and issues related to cloud operations. Lead a positive culture of value delivery, inclusivity, continuous improvement, sustainability, security, and user engagement. Be a collaborative team member, able to work with a range of stakeholders and possessing excellent communication, conflict management and negotiation skills. Have the ability to set a clear direction for a team, drive change, manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment to deliver outcomes. Have experience managing a professional team in a dynamic, customer centred environment, including strong people management, continuous improvement and problem solving skills. Effectively manage, monitor and communicate the work of your team, through planning, prioritisation, risk and issue management, monitoring and reporting. Understand the strategic objectives of the organisation and develop work plans accordingly; translate high-level goals and outcomes into action. Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications Demonstrated experience managing cloud platforms (including Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a Service on either Azure or AWS) in an enterprise context. Experience leading high performing operational teams to deliver and improve services for users. Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills and the ability to collaborate with a cross-section of an organisation. Highly Desirable Relevant Azure and/or AWS certifications. Familiarity with modern delivery approaches (Agile, Lean, DevOps) and tools (e.g. Jira, Bitbucket, Github). To Apply
