Job Description Our Griffith Bioscience Resources facility is seeking two Technical Assistants responsible for a range of tasks and operational duties for the material support sector for Biosciences activities, as well as working with a team of animal care staff in support of animal facility operations.
As a Technical Assistant, you will be required to operate and maintain daily checks of cage washer, autoclave and workspace to ensure that the work area meets with health and safety standard, maintain equipment logs to ensure compliance with OGTR standards of safe work practices and maintain aseptic techniques within the facility which adhere to local biosecurity procedures.
As directed, you will maintain holding rooms, cage washrooms, sterilisation areas, clean processing and laboratory areas in a state of cleanliness consistent with the Standard Operating Procedures for the facility.
The role will see you prepare and distribute a supply of sterilised cages and consumables to animal holding rooms daily, provision of fresh supply of food and water, routine changing of animal cages, ensuring adequate supplies of consumables are available and maintain compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including equity and health & safety and exhibit good practice in relation to same.
Success in this role requires collaboration with the Biosciences Resource Facilities team, research personnel and external providers.
About you To be successful within this role, you will have completed of Year 12 Certificate with relevant work experience or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/ or education/ training, such as the completion of mandatory courses, such as Biological Safety, Office of the Gene Technology Regulator work practices, and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health and safety requirements in teaching and research laboratories.
You will have demonstrated skills and experience in the safe operation and use of autoclaves, industrial cage washers and animal laboratory caging and processing systems and demonstrated skills in the preparation, collection and processing of materials used in the animal facility, as well as a good understanding of aseptic techniques as it relates to logistics operations in the animal facility and maintaining good laboratory practices including safe handling and disposal of biological materials.
The successful candidate will have effective customer service, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as computer literacy and skills in observation of laboratory animals.
What we can offer These are continuing, full-time positions and will be primarily based at either the Griffith University Nathan or Gold Coast campuses.
As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.

Salary Range The base salary for a HEW Level 3 is in the range $63,354 - $70,033 per annum, plus 17% superannuation.
The total package is in the range $74,125 - $81,938 per annum.
