This Technical Assistant role forms part of the pulse breeding and research team within Agriculture Victoria Research (AVR). The position is required for 12 months to backfill a temporarily vacant position at Horsham.The position oversees the daily field operations of the national lentil and field pea breeding programs that are co-funded by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC). Responsibilities include supporting the setup and management of field operations, assisting with the management of trial packing, sowing, and harvesting operations, and participating in the collection and management of data.The ideal candidate will work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and undertake a wide variety of work. You will need to be self-motivated, well-organised, and able to innovate and problem solve. Good communication skills are essential as you will interact with a broad range of people including scientists, technicians, and postgraduate students from within and outside of the organisation. A passion for agriculture and a desire to develop a career in agricultural research to contribute to world-class research and innovation that improves the profitability and sustainability of the Australian grains industry is required. A good fundamental understanding of plant and crop production is also necessary.You will report to the Senior Technical Officer at Horsham.
