People from all walks of life find themselves calling Tennant Creek home.About the RoleAnyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Team Leader - Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) to join their Kalpa Purru Wirranjarlki – Public Health Services Section, here in Tennant Creek. This role is offered on a Full-Time basis.Primary Objective:The aim of the Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) program is to contribute to closing the gap in Indigenous health outcomes by reducing tobacco smoking as the most significant risk factor for chronic disease among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.Leading a small team, and in consultation with community, you will be responsible for developing, promoting and undertaking a range of supportive, evidence-based resources and activities aimed to reduce the uptake of smoking, to promote smoke-free spaces, and supporting smoking cessation in Aboriginal communities within the Barkly Region.Identified strategies will focus on community engagement as well as developing responsive, flexible, population and preventative health approaches to tobacco use outcomes to enhance community understanding of the effects of tobacco on overall and long-term health outcomes for Aboriginal people living in the Barkly Region.Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesAbility to demonstrate skills transfer to Aboriginal staff employed in the same work area as the contracted employee.Lead the development, coordination and facilitation of positive engagement, interventions and activities in accordance with the TIS program guidelines and organizational policies and practices.Lead the development of sustainable and respectful networks in Aboriginal communities within the Barkly Region to build community support for the promotion of smoking prevention and smoking cessation.Provide support, leadership and management to the TIS program team to function as an effective team in the provision of information to increase awareness of the dangers of tobacco to improve lifestyle and decrease the burden of chronic diseases, including clearly defining roles and responsibilities, open communication processes and ongoing performance monitoring.In liaison with the Aboriginal communities in the Barkly Region and the National Best Practice Unit (NBPU) identify, develop and assist in the delivery of responsive smoking prevention and cessation social marketing campaigns.Please refer to the attached position description for full responsibilities.Essential skills and experience:Minimum Diploma and/or equivalent qualifications or experience to sufficiently perform the key responsibilities of TIS Team Leader.Evidenced understanding of the Primary Health Care system and key issues relevant to closing the gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.Be in possession of or have the ability to obtain an Ochre Card (Working with Children).Be Fully COVID-19 Vaccinated.If you meet the above criteria and you're interested in contributing to an organisation where you can really make a difference in our local community, we want to hear from you!When applying, please address the Selection Criteria listed in the Job Description as part of your Resume/Cover Letter.
