Are you an experienced legal professional looking to make an impact? Join the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) as a Principal Lawyer. In this pivotal role, you will develop and mentor in-house legal capability while delivering high-quality legal services to the QBCC. You will work closely with customers, external lawyers, and organisations, demonstrating professionalism, legal expertise, and a commitment to exceptional service. Key Responsibilities:Deliver high quality advocacy services for administrative review proceedings in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, judicial review and other proceedings in the Supreme Court, and appellant proceedings in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Court of Appeal. This will include:developing complex or sensitive legal documents including statements of reasons, applications, witness statements, briefs, submissions and correspondence;preparing litigation plans and recommendations;representing the QBCC in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Supreme Court of Queensland or Court of Appeal.Conduct complex legal and other research and provide legal advice to the Senior Leadership Team relevant to the statutory functions of the QBCC and contemporary, contentious and emerging issues within the construction industry.Lead, mentor and develop a team of lawyers, including providing clear guidance and constructive feedback, with the development of in-house capability as a priority.Proactively partner with and cultivate effective working relationships with internal clients and key internal stakeholders, to foster a cooperative approach to achieving the QBCC's aims.Candidate Attributes: Demonstrated high-level litigation experience, preferably related to government and preferably within administrative law or civil litigation.Demonstrated ability to lead and develop lawyers, and mentor other legal practitioners in the QBCC, with previous experience in a similar role.Proven capacity to appear as an advocate on behalf of the QBCC, analyse complex legal and factual issues, and draft complex legal advice.High level interpersonal skills including a high competency in written and oral communications, including the ability to effectively partner with and manage stakeholders.Proven experience being proactive and client and solutions focused, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.Mandatory Requirements: Admitted as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland.Holder of a current practicing certificate issued by the Queensland Law Society or Queensland Bar Association.Fully compliant with all CPD requirements of the Queensland Law Society or Queensland Bar Association.How to apply: A brief letter (maximum 2 pages) telling us why you are interested in this role and how your skills, knowledge and experience complement this role.
