Team Leader - Post Biosecurity Detections & Response team Who we are
Biosecurity Operations Division delivers nationally integrated biosecurity and imported food regulatory activities to ensure goods, conveyances and travellers meet Australia's import requirements. Division operations include policy and regulatory control setting across imported food and biosecurity risk pathways, as well as the delivery of assessment, inspection, community engagement and contact centre services. The division also partners with industry to improve the delivery of regulatory functions. The division spans a range of regulatory activities that plays a critical role in reducing risk and shaping our nation to become one of the few countries in the world to remain free from the world's most severe pests and diseases.

Traveller Policy & Operations, Human Health & Response develops and implements policy and controls to manage biosecurity and human health risks at the border. The pathway also works to address emerging post border biosecurity detections and deliver integrated system solutions to facilitate/support effective regulation across all pathways.

The Post-Biosecurity Detection & Response (PBD&R) teams are responsible for undertaking departmental responses to post-biosecurity detections of exotic pests and non-compliance. This includes critical and diverse biosecurity response functions such as investigations of referrals, field work across a variety of locations and heavy involvement in High Priority Pest responses. There is occasional involvement in Targeted Operations, as well as Biosecurity assistance with Compliance and Enforcement responses. The teams receive biosecurity referrals from a diverse range of stakeholders including, but not limited to:

The PBD&R teams also collaborate very closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, Government departments and Operational Science & Surveillance (OSS). Who we are

The Job
Work in this role will be undertaken both in the office, and out in the field. The successful applicant will work flexibly in-office and in-field depending on workloads and response priorities and will undertake a broad variety of functions. This exciting role will provide opportunities to develop your regulatory mindset and expand greatly on your knowledge of biosecurity management and ability to communicate high priority biosecurity matters with clients. Attention to detail, good analytical and reporting skills, excellent communication skills, the ability to problem solve and work in a fast-paced environment are essential.
