About QIMR Berghofer:
QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Mental Health and Neuroscience, and Population Health. Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.
About Animal Facility:
The Scientific Services Department plays a key role in providing support services to the researchers and within this, the Animal Facility is a vital component. The position of Team Leader - Experimental manages a team of animal technicians who provide technical support, training and supervision in all experimental, technical and surgical procedures within the animal facility for researchers and students. The position will support the design and implementation of surgical and experimental techniques to enable and advance sophisticated medical research.
Role Purpose / Responsibilities:
Seeking a talented technical people leader to support growth and advancement of our world class animal facility within the Scientific Services department, to support cutting edge medical research. The following duties will apply:

Foster positive, collaborative and productive working relationships between animal facility, researchers and students across the entire Institute.
Manage performance by communicating expectations, providing regular performance feedback, coaching for improved performance, and developing/encouraging professional and personal growth.
Manage safety and compliance by ensuring policies and procedures are implemented, maintained by reviewing processes and protocols, and all employees are appropriately trained at all times.
Create a culture of value-added service and support through flexibility, multi-skilling and a "can do" approach.
Provide expert technical advice in the training and supervision of advanced surgical techniques including splenectomy, vasectomy, ovariectomy, Caesarean section, tissue transplantation, embryo transfer and various biopsy techniques.
Implement training, skill development and advice to all technical and research staff in all technical and surgical procedures.
Ensure that all work on, and with, animals in the facility complies with Australian Code of Practice and the QIMR Berghofer AEC recommendations.

About you:

Demonstrated leadership skills for overseeing technical teams.
Minimum Diploma of Animal Technology or equivalent qualification.
Proven experience in laboratory animal care in a scientific research environment.
Substantial expertise and demonstrated ability with animal handling and techniques.
Extensive knowledge of regulatory bodies and legislation governing laboratory animal research.
High level of organisational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to follow tasks through to completion.

Remuneration: Salary range is $106,593 - $113,554 p.a. plus super and generous salary packaging. This is a replacement position for a staff member on secondment. The position is available as full-time, fixed term for 12 months.
