Job Title: Team Leader - Marine Engineer

Reports To: Engineering Manager
To lead a team of engineers in the delivery of detail design activities across programmes within the Belcan Marine systems. The role has a strong focus on engineering delivery and quality, providing a focal for technical governance and support to the team.
Amongst other things, the successful candidate will lead the detail design activities of spatial integration modelling, production outputs supervision/checking, and customer change capture and embodiment along with support to production operations in relation to the areas under their supervision, as required.
It is expected that the Team Leader will be comfortable working in an Engineering Service environment and will be able to balance the technical responsibilities inherent within the role, with the commercial and project timescale associated with delivery.
Principal Responsibilities:Customer: Interacts with customer technical focal points as required.Delivery: On-Time, On-Budget delivery in accordance with customer quotations.P&L: Maximises billability of team.Avoids overspend and write-offs.Identify & implement cost savings (internal & customer).Manages change.Resource / Capability: Responsible for technical validity of customer deliverables, by either approving deliverables or utilising suitably qualified and experienced personnel.Agree and define deliverables for customer quotations.Supervise team members, planning of day-to-day activities.Identifies training requirements for team members.Provide inputs to and support PDRs.Offshore: Identifies opportunities within their team's activities that align with the functional off-shoring.Required Qualifications and Experience:Must be degree qualified. However, other qualifications and experience will be considered.Must have marine engineering and/or a defence related industry experience. Must be experienced in both naval ship spatial modelling and in the production and checking of marine output drawings of various disciplines, principally Layouts.Must be highly proficient in the use of the appropriate tools and techniques that will be used by his/her team (e.g., Windchill, Foran, etc.).Have a thorough awareness of naval ship design rules and specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out detail design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained by his or her team.Must be a highly capable communicator both written and spoken.Must be an excellent team player with a tenacious and resilient attitude to drive the interface with the customer and the various engineering and support functions of the business.Must have experience in project coordination and/or management in a challenging delivery environment.Provide technical support and troubleshooting responses in assigned areas to operational units or other activities.Appreciates and can articulate the value of the engineering lifecycle and the relationship to the Lifecycle Management Process. Support and participate in technical reviews to ensure product viability.Understand the importance of Health and Safety requirements and can articulate the need to ensure that the product is acceptably safe and that product and system safety assessments form part of the design process.Must have an understanding of regulatory and statutory requirements of the product.Has an appreciation of the requirement that the environmental impact of our activities is sustainable in the long term.Appreciates the need for a supportability engineering process to sustain the long-term viability of the business. Understands that supportability goes beyond basic design, maintenance and operability requirements.
