Offer Description Remuneration: competitive hourly rates as per Macquarie Uni's schedule for casual academic rates of pay Appointment Type: Casual Location: Macquarie University (North Ryde) The Role Expressions of Interest for suitably qualified casual academic staff are wanted to perform a range of teaching and associated duties, including undertaking tutorial classes and marking assessment tasks, in several undergraduate units within the Bachelor of Cognitive and Brain Sciences course.
We are seeking tutors for the units listed below. Tutors are generally expected to be familiar with the content area that the units cover.
COGS1000 - Introduction to Neuroscience 1: This unit involves the use of a variety of research and other experimental equipment. COGS2000 - Cognitive Neuroscience: This unit involves the use of a variety of research and other experimental equipment. COGS2010 - Memory COGS2020 - Experimental Design and Data Analysis for the Cognitive and Brain Sciences: This unit requires the use of the R-programming language and software environment. Tutors are expected to have experience with R, and ideally be familiar with data.table, ggplot2, and possess a strong statistics background. COGS2050 - Reading in the Mind and Brain COGS3020 - Computational Neuroscience: This unit requires the use of Python. Tutors are expected to have experience with programming in Python using numpy, scipy, sklearn, and preferably pytorch. A strong mathematical background including linear algebra, calculus and differential equations are desired. COGS3040 - Space and Time in the Brain: Neuroscience background and MATLAB proficiency are desirable. General Information The expected duties of such opportunities include teaching, student consultation and marking assessments. An information meeting which provides key information about the unit materials, assessment and processes will be offered to you by your Unit Coordinator.
Payment will be made in accordance with the MQ Academic Enterprise Agreement 2023.
It is anticipated that availability of casual work will increase from February - June 2025 (inclusive). Please note that submission of an expression of interest is not a guarantee of employment. All offers of employment are subject to relevant Faculty, Department, and HR requirements and processes.
About You All interested tutors are encouraged to register their interest. Experience tutoring in previous offerings of these units or similar units, as well as having a background in cognitive science, psychology or neuroscience-related field will be looked upon favourably.

Postgraduate qualification or current enrolment in a higher degree research program relevant to the teaching discipline; Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with students; Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others; The right to work in Australia for the duration of the session; Background in a cognitive science, psychological science and/or neuroscience-related field; Demonstrated tertiary-level teaching experience, especially in a previous offering of the unit or a similar unit.
