Sofala Public School is a unique small school located in the historic village of Sofala close to the banks of the picturesque Turon River and is 45km from Bathurst, New South Wales. Our school draws its enrolments from a complex local community with families who live and work in the local and Bathurst areas. Our current enrolment is 11 students with 36% identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
Our positive school culture is based around connecting and empowering our students, staff, and community as we pursue excellence.
Reflecting on our learning journey since External Validation at the end of 2019 and looking forward to building on the success and achievement from this process for our school by continuing to build staff capacity and quality education delivered at Sofala Public School for our students.
Through the development of our situational analysis, we have identified the need to continue our emphasis on embedding effective classroom practices in literacy and numeracy, enhancing our assessment processes with systematic and reliable assessment data and reflecting on the progress of every student to identify strengths and gaps in learning through the triangulation of internal and external data sources.
High expectations and collaboration have resulted in a strong school culture at Sofala PS with frameworks and supports for staff to continue individual and whole school development within our continuous school improvement journey. Quality teaching and learning based on refining collaborative classroom practice will continue to be a focus.
The school provides a hub for the community. School forums provide an opportunity to share events collaboratively in our learning journey for improvement. Professional Learning Communities see us as members of the Lithgow Public Schools Network, Bathurst Small Schools Network, and the Small Schools Community of Practice.

Position Information In addition to the general selection criteria:
Ability to manage the unique challenges and dual roles of a Teaching Principal.Strong instructional leadership with a focus on Literacy and Numeracy and Explicit Teaching that builds a dynamic learning environment to positively impact student growth and achievement.Proven ability to build and strengthen partnerships with staff, parents, external agencies, and community to enact informed decision-making and lead continuous improvement to meet the needs of all students.Ability to lead a high expectations culture with clear vision, collaboration, and strategic resourcing. General Selection Criteria High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high-quality education.Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs.High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community.Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning.Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning.Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2017 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. Please refer to the information regarding the Classification Structure for Principals.
The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure, a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level TP1 for 2024.
Applicants are to include details of their WWCC clearance number as part of this application.
