About the role Join our dynamic team as a Business Controls Manager, where you will play a vital role in shaping the risk management landscape of our Bank. Reporting directly to the CIO, you will oversee the implementation of our First Line of Defence (1LOD) strategy, ensuring that the identification, measurement, evaluation, and monitoring of risks and controls are executed in alignment with our comprehensive Risk Management Framework. You will collaborate closely with both operational and back-office teams, guiding them to effectively manage risks while achieving a sustainable balance between risk and return. Your expertise will empower departments to not only comply with established policies but also to strive for optimal outcomes that align with the Bank's overarching goals.
In this position, you will act as a trusted adviser and change agent, challenging the status quo and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Your proactive approach will involve facilitating discussions around risk and compliance, driving engagement in governance forums, and ensuring that all stakeholders are equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate complex risk landscapes. As you monitor responses to risk events and compliance breaches, you will provide critical insights that enhance our control environment. Responsibilities: Champion risk management within the Bank's business activities, leveraging commercial judgement.Collaborate with key stakeholders to provide 1LOD risk expertise and ensure compliance with frameworks and policies.Monitor and assess the control environment, providing timely assurance of operations.Track responses to risk events, compliance breaches, and initiatives falling outside the Bank's Risk Appetite.Lead departmental governance forums and prepare risk reporting for executives.Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for risk-related assistance, providing ongoing support and training.Deliver regular updates on incidents, compliance, and control improvement plans to the Executive.Participate in audits and cross-functional initiatives, sharing insights at monthly Business Control Managers' Forums.About You You are an experienced risk management professional with a strong background in financial institutions. You possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence stakeholders. A proactive communicator and facilitator, you are passionate about driving improvements and fostering a culture of compliance and risk awareness.
