This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025 Poynter Primary School (PS) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Music Specialist Teacher to join our expert collaborative team. We are located in Duncraig, opened in 1980 and have a relatively stable enrolment at around 440 students. The school's unique location, only 15 kilometres from the central business district, affords easy access to beaches and quality leisure and sporting facilities. Poynter has a proud academic tradition of providing quality educational learning opportunities across all learning areas and national testing results support the school's reputation for strong academic achievement. Extension programs include access to the Primary Extension and Academic Challenge (PEAC) program, a school-based Poynter enrichment program, where students are taught higher order thinking skills (HOTS). The music program is a strong feature of Poynter and includes Instrumental Music School Service (IMSS) students.

The buildings, which are well maintained and air-conditioned, include sixteen teaching classrooms, purpose-built music and art rooms, an undercover assembly area, a spacious library and extensive bank of laptop and iPad devices across the school. The grounds feature extensive sporting fields, shaded play areas and adventure playgrounds.
We are seeking a dedicated Pre-primary to Year 6 music specialist teacher with exceptional interpersonal skills and a natural ability to cultivate positive relationships with parents, students, and colleagues. The successful applicant will have experience in running a choir, school orchestra and band amongst various ensembles, and support teaching staff with assembly items. Leading the school in singing the national anthem, school song and community songs is essential.
The IMSS program operates at Poynter from Years 3-6 with specialist string, brass, percussion and wind instruments. The successful applicant will be required to coordinate testing and placement for this program along with training and conducting our school band and orchestra of IMSS students. Our music learning area is well resourced with a range of xylophones, ukuleles, drums and keyboards. The successful applicant would have the opportunity to further develop the program and resources.
