ABOUT THE ROLE:
The relationship between student and teacher is integral to student success. Teachers in the role of mentors come to understand and know the needs of their individual students, both academically and personally. This facilitates the development of individualised teaching and learning strategies that can be implemented consistently to support the student academically. They are the key influencer of students' outcomes, they own and lead class culture, and consistently manage standards and expectations.
The Teacher will adopt the mindset of a small business owner with the responsibility of preparing their young students with the skills ready for work. They have access to the latest educational and industry resources to bring the learning experience to life in real life industry settings.
The Teacher is responsible for facilitation, training, and assessment within the Sports Development Programs. They are an active promotor of the school and contributes to the engagement, retention, completion, and attendance levels of the students. They develop important relationships with sporting and community partners to best link students learning outcomes with industry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching, Learning & Assessment: Deliver the curriculum through an applied learning approach, maintain a safe learning environment, monitor progress, provide feedback, and complete required reporting.
Program Development: Collaborate with others to develop and deliver engaging programs in line with the School mission, vision, Statement of Faith and standards, seeking community feedback, and maintaining reporting and standard requirements.
Student Experience: Contribute to an overall positive student experience through trips, camps, and community projects.
Professional Standards & Colleague Relationships: Adhere to school and regulating bodies' policies and standards, maintain positive working relationships, and actively collaborate and share best practices.
Student Relationships: Build positive and professional rapport with students, understand their learning needs, and manage conduct with a student-first approach.
Parent, Local Community, and Industry Relationships: Develop strong relationships with parents, engaging them in the school process, and connect with members of local community and industry.
General: Participate in meetings and professional development, follow school policies and procedures, ensure safety for self and others, and perform other duties as directed.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
Well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build rapport, and interact effectively with a broad range of people at all levels. This includes an ability to liaise directly with parents/carers.
Strong written communication skills, with an ability to plan and write curriculum.
Ability to work independently and contribute effectively as a team member to achieve goals.
Strong organisational, planning and time management skills with an ability to prioritise and manage workload, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing circumstances.
Ability to use problem-solving skills to identify problems and establish an appropriate solution.
ABOUT US:
The Islamic College of Sport (ICS) is an independent senior secondary school, offering young Muslim students an environment where they can explore their faith and sense of identity, while completing a holistic and applied education that is connected to genuine sports industry and community experiences.
Students at ICS study and receive the Victorian Certificate of Education – Vocational Major. The VCE VM enables learning to occur in a more holistic manner, andaccountsfor the personal strengths,interests,and goals of students. This means that we can develop curriculum and learning experiences that are in context and connected to areas of interest for students.
ICS has been established by the Bachar Houli Foundation (BHF) which has been working with young Muslim boys and girls since 2012. The Foundation delivers engagement programs, employment, talent pathways and education. The Foundation identified an opportunity to further support young people through sport in providing a unique education experience and using its existing brand to have a positive impact on each individual through ICS.
