Location Profile Yarrabah School is a school for children with moderate to severe disabilities located in the bayside suburb of Aspendale. The school caters for students from 2.8 to 18 years of age and believes that all students can learn and experience success. Education programs are tailored to students' learning needs using individual education plans, with a strong emphasis on developing independence, social skills, life skills, personal skills, and play skills.
Learning is delivered in line with the Victorian Curriculum, emphasizing communication, literacy, and numeracy, using an explicit instructional approach. Students participate in various enrichment programs, including Visual Arts, Performing Arts (music, dance, and drama), Physical Education, Life Skills, Travel Education, Technology, Swimming, Bike Riding, structured Play-Based Learning, and an extensive camping program.
Yarrabah draws on the REAL (Relationships, Explicitness, Ability, and Learning for Life) framework, which guides practice and informs professional learning. The school is a SWPBS (school-wide positive behaviour support) school that implements PTR (Prevent Teach Reinforce), ALERT programs, and Team Teach (behaviour support and management approach). Students are encouraged to participate in all programs to optimize opportunities and become valued members of their local communities.

Program Benefits - Graduates This position may attract an incentive payment of $5,650 (pre-tax) for the successful candidate who meets the eligibility criteria set out under conditions of employment. Role - Graduates The primary focus of the range 1 classroom teacher is on developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support and guidance from higher-level teachers, planning, preparing, and teaching programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
These teachers teach a range of students/classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs. Range 1 classroom teachers operate under general direction within clear guidelines, following established work practices and documented priorities, and may supervise and train one or more student teachers.
At range 1, teachers participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in the implementation of school priorities. New entrants receive structured support, mentoring, and guidance from higher-level teachers.
Responsibilities - Graduates Core responsibilities include:
Planning and implementing a range of teaching programs or courses of study. Teaching an area of the curriculum or a general curriculum to a year level. Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting student progress in key learning areas. Implementing strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes. Maintaining records of class attendance and recording student progress. Implementing effective student management consistent with the school charter. Working with a mentor to participate in professional development planning, implementation, and reflection, developing a professional portfolio. Additional responsibilities may include:

Have completed their course requirements and graduated in the last 4 years. Not be employed as a teacher by the department at the time the advertised position is to commence. Applicants must also be currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
